Every year on 1st November, vegans around the world celebrate and champion for their vegan lifestyle. According to many acclaimed vegans, the lifestyle is beneficial for the health of human beings, not to mention that it fosters environmental protection as well as the lives of animals.

The commemoration of this event began in 1994 by a UK celebrity, Louise Wallis, who was at the time the chair of The Vegan Society, as they celebrated its 50th birthday, the coinage of the terms vegan and veganism, as well as the inception of The Vegan Society.

Not wanting the event to coincide with others like Day of the Dead and Halloween, and because of the doubts as to the exact date in November 1944 when the society was started, Wallis decided to go with the first day of November.

Around the globe, World Vegan Day is commemorated through exhibitions, seminars, public debates, workshops among others. The day presents a perfect opportunity for anyone looking to adopt the vegan lifestyle. During the event, they can learn, interact and maybe at the end of it; they will decide to become vegans.

The day also is a perfect chance for individuals to advocate the lifestyle, share ideas and sensitize their friends on its importance as well as how they feel.

Some of the prominent celebrities who usually commemorate the event include Ellen DeGeneres, Ariana Grande, Stevie Wonder, Peter Dinklage, Bellamy Young, James Cameron, Pamela Anderson among others.

There is no specific venue for the celebration of the event. It can be held anywhere. This year’s World Vegan Day will be on Thursday, 1st November 2021.
